The Coin Cabinet at Stockholm

Following a chronological order, the exhibiton first displays cowrie shells, tobacco, caco, and salt blocks, what people used to trade with. There’s even this weird Rai stones, from the Yap islands, made from Aragonite stone. Round wheels, the larger the more valuable. Still used for important transactions, like land purchases, and the rich display Rais outside their houses, I think because it can’t fit through the front door. Haha.

Then there’s Roman denarius, Greek coins with their characteristic owl motifs, Viking coins, even Chinese coins with holes, Malay Kupang (which I am impressed that they have), porcelain coins from Thailand, and weird Ghana statues, which are their currency, based on weight but carved into images. Must be tedious to keep in your pocket with all the poking edges.

I suddenly don't miss home that much

Was coming home from church last sunday when suddenly the whole road was filled with green people, no not aliens. green people.
Like, what the heck was going on?
'

my guess is the finals of either an ice hockey or football match at Globen, which is this large globe like structure that you can see as a little white dome to the right of the round blue clock in the picture below.

they were singing, shouting slogans, drinking beer, waving flags, and ignoring traffic. There were even a few police officers around to make sure the cars stopped. I think its a terrible feeling to be in one of those cars stuck in the middle of the crossing when this happened. everybody passing by would stare into the car like watching fish in an aquarium.

I was spellbound by the troop of walkers that i stood there watching for 15 minutes. actually they stopped traffic for 15 minutes so the bus on the other side of the junction couldnt cross over, and I didnt want to walk back. thus i waited.
Can you imagine a troop of people, walking down the road of 4 lanes, taking a good 15 minutes to cross one junction? Thats ALOT of people.

so, after being here for so long, i decided to try making some swedish food, because
1. holiday, so bored, nothign better to do, 'chiak par sioh eng'
2. never tried real swedish food before because to ex outside to eat in restaurant and too poor.
3. wanted to try make them and if good, can export back and make for friends and family back home.

try 1:
Cheese ice cream aka västerbottensglass
made with this special type of expensive cheese, sugar, cream, eggs. and alot of beating.
tastes not bad, maybe because of the sugar.
my cheese not fine enough so alot of it sink to the bottom of the bowl.
but overall, not bad. can try again.

try 2:
Janssons frestelse aka Jansson's temptation.
its a dish of potatoes, anchovies and onions, baked in cream
I think added a tad too much salt. but i find it so-so, not exactly amazing. but looks really nice, the browned bits on top because of the breadcrumbs.
this dish, try once enough.

Was wondering around town when I came across this. My heart skipped 1.352 beats. Must go back one day when its open to try it out!

mi goreng, satay, nasi lemak. Woo Hoo!!!!
Home is where the stomach is.

when the shoots and buds come out, so do the birds. pecking and hacking at the young things

this bird is seeking higher illumination

this one hopes to follow in teh path of a higher flying being

reminds me of the common myna

whatcha looking at? never seen a bird in a bird house?

bird eating berries. very messy eater, most of it wasted and falls away

big bird

bird that caught a worm, it was about 3 pm, and so proves the old adage wrong: the late bird does not loose out on worms

i think this is a cuckoo. it makes those kinds of sounds.

Today the weather was amazing, 15C, warm and with slight breeze. just perfect for a day in the park

and i'm not the only one who thought of that. the park was filled with people, eating, drinking, jsut sitting around in the sun with a mat.

lots of shoots everywhere from trees, plants, and the ground.

some early flowers have also started to appear. just popping up everywhere.

as i mentioned, it was a perfect postcard weather day

ever wondered where the term 'sparkling water' came from? wonder no more.
