Went to the Utrecht Clock museum. Its more of automated music museum than clock I think. It comes first from clock towers that tell the time but before striking for the hour, you need to warn people that the strike is coming so you had a little tune before the 'dong!'. Thats how it all came about.
From that, there was lots of automated music machines that came out. from simple bells to a whole orchestra. The first video is a small street entertainer's box with moving people to entertain the watchers, while the second vid is a huge magnification of the simple music machine. The thrid video is an automated piano plus 4 violins. It was just simply quite mesmerizing to stand and watch it play by itself.

interesting stuff i spotted in a shop in amsterdam,

also went to the rijksmuseum and van gogh museum in amsterdam for a whole day of art. too bad cant take pictures inside. saw the night watch by rembrandt link and van gogh's self portrait and sunflowers link. Frankly, some of the works that are unknown are really nice and scenic, while some of the famous ones are like huh, why is this famous, i can do better?

but the good thing about artists last time was that they did contribute to society, like a painting showing the french guard displacing peasants, when the painting was displayed in an exhibition, the king said that that painter should be banned because he did not paint that is true. but after the king made an inquiry, he found to his surprise that the army was doing such cruel deeds and so the king ordered that to stop.

flowers in my gf's room.

went to visit my girlfriend last week hence the lack of postings, while there, went canoeing, coz one of the days had amazingly good weather in terms of holland's standard.
this is me before it all started, pumped up and ready to beat the world record.

there were alot of small outlets from the main canal but we didnt dare venture.

keep on bumping into the trees. either drinking milk makes you drunk or we are terrible at steering.

amazing sights, tranquility, peace, silence.

the happy free loader.

bump against the bridge

drips, frozen in time

hit the sides again.

crashed into some tree by the side

some places were wide open spaces of blue sky and warm sun. some places were cool shaded trees with mirror reflections.

decided to turn back after an hour of peddling.

the way back was following the wind, so was slightly easier. We changed places, front and back, so we get to see diff perspectives.

this is my gf after its all over, happy she didnt need to row so much but just relaxed.

GötheborgsUtkiken: nicknamed the Lipstick by locals, is the highest building around in Göteborg city. from far it really looks tall, hovering above all else, but when you get closer, it seems to diminish in stature.

the top is tapered and to my horror, its only 22 storeys high! so short!!! ack.

but the view from the top was pretty decent, lots of wind and pretty unobstructed view of the entire region.

they have these little windows all around the 22nd floor that you can peep out from. I basically stuck my head and hands out with my camera to get these panoramic shots.

the Göteborg theatre, supposedly one of the best in the world. Its that ship shaped building next to the harbour.

went to the Heineken Experience. €10 entry ticket.

there was first some history as to how it came about, the family business, the awards it won, and then onto the process in which the beer is made.
this is the old brewery no more in production use.

huge vats

then after that was the 'experience' part. there was first a sort of moving platform journey of how the beer is made. this ride was worth the entry price itself.

next a lounge, with thousands of bottles hanging from the ceiling.

how the bottling process is carried out.

gulp

model bar

right at the end, you have free flow of beer, and you can even tap your own cup

Heineken, probably not the best beer in the world.

museum of the history of the city of Utrecht, a good collection of paintings, and some archeological artifacts.

too real

dolls, supposedly fashionable to own a doll house in teh past.
