lovely day to get out
To the city hall, Stadhusset, for a free tour as one of my friend's friend works as a tour guide. its good to have friends.
first hall, the blue hall. not blue but the walls supposed to be plastered blue, the desinger changed his mind at the end because the bricks were very nice, but eveyrbody came to know the hall as blue hall since its int eh plans, so he decided to leave the name as it is. This is where the nobel dinner is held ( the nobel prize is held in the theatre)
special stairs. the designer made many staircases of wood of different heights and size and made his wife test out climbing up and down to find the perfect dimensions for ease of women wearing heels and flowing dresses to climb up and down. This is the result.
notice it tapers of at the end. this is supposedly good to avoid you stepping on your own train.
bottom's up light
view from a window
the chamber room where the local city representatives meet once every 3 weeks. the ceiling is an upside down viking boat and the blue is symbolic of the openness of the discussion there. whatever can be said here should be able to be relayed to the public. there is a viewing gallery at one end for press, and another one at the other end for anybody who is interested. too bad not in english.
the tourguide
the speakers spot in the middle, having a special canopy that supposedly enhances the audio clarity. many says it makes the room look like a king's room
strictly no left hands to be placed on this chair!
The tower block, made to be 106 meters, as the tower in denmark completed slightly earlier was 105.5 m. talk about petty rivalry.
