took these images with a 30 second exposure at iso 400, i.e the camera's click-click of taking a photo lasts 30 seconds. so dont try this with your 'normal' digicams, it wont work.

arcs are most common auroras and are found in an east-west direction in the early evenings. in this case it was there from 10pm to past midnight, changing little
some others just have no shape and looks like a glob of.... something...
when the earths magnetic field gets more active, the auroras can look like drapery. these are normally the most impressive and can be found in hues of green, blue, red, and purple. colours besides green are rarely seen.
